Farnsfield Parish lies within the Newark and Sherwood District Council area of Nottinghamshire. It has
over 3000 residents and is a thriving community. The name of Farnsfield was derived from the description 'field of ferns'. In the Domesday Book it was entered as Franesfield. Brick-making used to be the major industry in Farnsfield, now long gone. The majority of the residents are now commuters travelling as far as London.
The Village has many historical links dating from the Iron Age to the Halifax Memorial commemorating the crash of a World War 2 bomber. Farnsfield lies in a very
attractive part of the Nottinghamshire countryside and attracts many tourists. The Parish Council, consisting of 11 Councillors, endeavours to maintain the character and amenities in the village which are provided later in more detail.
