THE FUTURE OF NEWTON CARNIVAL TEAM

Apologising for a rather somber start to the meeting, Dexter expressed concern about negative vibes being banded about the village regarding the performance of Newton Carnival Team.  To learn that there is a feeling within the team that events are not being effectively managed is rather upsetting.  Dexter stated that he was more than willing to step down in his current role as Chair if members felt management of the team could be improved.  He stated that the aim of meetings was to give members an opportunity to voice concerns and resolve issues.  If members felt unable to speak up in front of others then a quick telephone call in confidence would be appreciated and not discussed openly in public places.

Lisa stated that due to a change in career for both herself and Dexter, managing the Carnival Team has been harder than anticipated and they now rely on the support of fellow members more than ever.  It was discussed and agreed that more tasks and duties would be delegated to other members with the proviso that these be completed and recorded for updates at meetings.

Lisa ended by saying that as a team we need to remain positive, support one another and continue our fund raising aims with enthusiasm.

CARNIVAL QUEEN DISCO

All members agreed that this was a good night!  The disco was well presented and the kids seemed to enjoy themselves.

Of note for next year, the ages for Queen & Attendants will be re-defined as follows:
Infants – aged 4 – 7
Juniors – aged 8 – 11
Queen – aged 12+

Draw to be made as late as possible.

HIKE & BIKE

Again, all members agreed this was an enjoyable afternoon.  Despite fewer numbers than hoped, funds raised were around 600 pounds for a host of charities and our Carnival.

Of note for next year:

Presentation to take place at a set time.  Unfortunately, some people arrived at the Club much later than others which made it difficult and would have meant having several presentations throughout the afternoon (unrealistic!)

Advertising.  It was agreed that more advertising is needed for all events, including large banners to be displayed on the Community Centre for every event.  These are to be designed in such a way that they can be used year after year with only slight alterations having to be made.  Again, concerns were raised about the lack of interest from local schools to engage in events – positive promotion being the answer.  Paul suggested writing to Steve Coe.

Autumn hike & bike/haunted ghost walk - to be discussed at the next meeting.

PLANT FAYRE – 3rd MAY

Plants desperately needed!

Indoor car boot/table top stalls available – 5 pound.

Final details to be discussed at next meeting.

CARNIVAL

Increasing number of stalls being booked in.

Bands – 4 booked and confirmed.  In addition enquiries received from Derby Serenaders Show Band, Retford and District Scout Band and the Bourbon Street Roof Raisers.  This was discussed – agreed to go ahead and book.

Children’s Entertainment – Dexter read out two quotations.  These were discussed and it was decided to book ‘Pogo’ who will attend all day to perform stilt walking, mix & mingle, etc, for 350 pound.

Cars – Paul to re-contact.

Classic car – Matthew McCallum from Blackwell has expressed an interest in entering his Lotus in the parade.  Lisa to write letter and forward to Nigel to deliver.

Arena events – Tom & Tilly booked and confirmed.  Blackwell Dance School – letter required for Leanne & Hannah – Lisa to write and pass to Karen.
Tug-o-war – Dexter to contact Neil Ball.  Miniature steam booked and confirmed.
