MINUTES OF MEETING
HELD ON WEDNESDAY, 16TH APRIL 2008

Minutes of Last Meeting & Matters Arising

Hike & Bike

Some certificates still to be handed out in Blackwell.

Plant Fayre – 3rd May 2008

Members available – Kathryn, Kath, Matthew, Angela, Paul, Karen (needs to leave at 11.30 to get to church!).  Meet at 8.30am in the Centre.  Anyone available at 8.30pm on the Friday to transport plants to centre.

5 stalls booked in up to yet.  Our stalls – plants, refreshments (tea, coffee, full English breakfast), cake stall, carnival raffle, small tombola, balloon race (for carnival) tickets – 1.00 a ticket).

Food – Sharon to get eggs, bacon, tomato’s, beans, bread, cobs, milk, sauces, butter, squash.

Tombola tickets – Angela and Matthew to fold.

Desperately need plants!  Dexter has forthcoming meeting with Civic Pride – will make enquiries.  Some plants purchased from B&Q which were on offer.  Option would be to go to wholesalers on the Saturday morning – early! 

Advertisement - Banner being designed to advertise the plant fayre.  Posters ready to display.

Stall booked at Blackwell Residents Action Group fayre on the 26th April, 1.00 – 3.00pm to sell daffodils currently ready (which probably won’t last until out plant fayre).  Members to help Lisa & Dexter run the stall would be greatly appreciated!

Additional Fundraising

To try and not touch money in the bank currently, we need to raise approximately £2000 .  Agreed we could do 2 more events prior to the Carnival. 

Sponsored bed push – strip the old caravan and decorate as a carnival float with members in fancy dress around the village of Newton (then other villages at another date if successful).  Ending with a BBQ at the pub – Saturday, 7th June, George & Dragon.  Set disco up and encourage people to follow the float.  ? Fancy dress competition at the end. 

Sunday, 11th May at 1.00pm – strip caravan at Sharons.

Ideas needed for float for next meeting – needs to be dramatic!  Also needs to be sturdy to store for future use.  Gallion with water cannons, mast, fancy dress – pirate theme.

Ask Dave Black if he would do some welding for us.   

Carnival

7 bands taking part in the parade.  Lottery grant application made for Awards For All.  This includes carnival workshops to design floats, costumes, etc.  Derbyshire County Council have pledged £200   Will know whether successful mid June. 

Kathryn to look into lorries for floats.  Sharon to contact Alison Beckett re: shire horse and cart.

Trophies – Sharon handed a list to Dexter of trophies given out last year. 
Sharon has contacted various people to seek sponsors for trophies.  Eight received up to yet in addition to other promising possibilities. 

Cabinet in Community Centre – we need to provide the cabinet but permission given to display this in the centre. 

Sashes - Sharon to work out exactly how many sashes we need to ensure they all match.

Wholesalers – Sharon to look into this for cakes, etc, for the Carnival.

Raffle tickets – given to all members for sale.

Daffodils – please encourage people to buy!
